KuyaKevin's blog - The Call Center Culture

I have several friends (including former students) that work in call centers here in Manila. Most of them make pretty good money--call centers probably offer the highest average salary of any other industry. But the relatively high salary comes at a price. You'll often hear call center employees refer to the physical and psychological impact of working the "graveyard shift." There's something that concerns me even more: the spiritual environment--the "call center culture." The following seems to be common among call center workers:

*Heavy drinking and smoking.

*Sexual immorality (homosexuality, cohabitation of non-married couples, promiscuity).

*Moral relativism (no sense of absolute truth).

*Wasting money instead of investing wisely.

*Disconnection from church/worship (in part due to the non-traditional work schedule).

Please don't get me wrong--I'm not saying all call center workers live ungodly lifestyles. What I've learned, in fact, has mostly come from Christians who are struggling to keep their faith in this toxic environment. I believe we (Christians) can do more to reach those working in the call center industry. Next month I'll be helping a church conduct a seminar for call center agents. It's a small step, but maybe it will be the beginning of something big.

. . . I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.

- I had seen this entry on my friendster and became curious. That is why, I visited kuya kevin's blogsite. Yes, Indeed! I have my friends working in call center, they said, they enjoyed working there and received great pay. I respected them naman..But for me, it's so hard to work in this kind of industry, you are required to work in morning and evening. We have different opinions naman regarding to this matter and it's up to them if they really want. We have the freedom to choose what is the best for us.

Pussycat Dolls Concert Live in Manila

The concert last night was really really awesome! (thumbs up) ^_^ The group lead vocalist, Nicole Scherzinger is half-Filipina, part-Russian and part-Hawaiian, but she said people think she's from Pakistan. Other members are Kimberly Wyat, Melody Thornton, Ashley Roberts and Jessica Suta. Although Jessica was not with them when they arrived for the concert because of her injury. The show must still go on. We headed in Mall of Asia at exactly 5:30 p.m but we ate first before we watch the concert. We heard on the news that many people are already there in the venue (early bird people) because the it's a first come first serve basis. My eldest sister wasn't able to go with us, that's why I gave my 2 extra tickets to my high school friends. The concert started at exactly 8 p.m and the Pinoy bands who started the show. At 9 p.m, Pussycat Dolls performed on stage and the fans started to party, screaming, yelling "wwhhoohh".

People kept on screaming when Nicole introduced herself but i didn't scream for her. I was supposed to scream for Ashley's name. :-) I could feel the rush of the energy coming from me and the fans! They sung more than 10 songs like I don't need a man, Beep, Wait a Minute, Don't Cha, Buttons, Halo, Hush Hush, and especially my 2 favorite songs ever, Stick with you and Jai Ho (really love these songs so much). It's worth it! I enjoyed the show so much. Thanks to my friends and to my sis 'coz i really loved your companies guys. Mwuah! And to my eldest sis, whom is my sponsor for all the concerts every now and then, thank you so much for the green passes. I hope more green passes for the next upcoming concerts. :) There was a fireworks after the show, I think it's already 10:15 p.m. Wooaahh! so crowded. People kept on saying "cover your mouth there's a swine flu, don't keep close to the people, keep distance.." Even me, I did it. hehe! Good thing for that is people were scared to have swine flu rather than ignoring it, right?

"I can't wait. I've read all the books, and I'm a big fan. The trailer is probably not the exact same as the scene will be in the actual movie. (For the sake of the book, let's hope not) I've noticed that with movies and trailers.. So yeah, it should be good. Come on November."
